All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation
Rebecca Traister
Promised Land - Connie Willis, Cynthia Felice This is only science fiction by courtesy. Its a reasonably charming if somewhat predictable frontier romance, with some science fictional set dressing. But its only set dressing. There's no reason that this story has to be set in the future or on another planet, nothing about it requires that. Its just decoration, not integral or necessary to the plot. The whole thing could easily be translated with only minimal changes to any number of historical or present day settings.

Its a fairly charming light romance and that can be fun as long as you aren't expecting anything else. The science fictional decorations are cute, the dialogue is readable, and the characters are believable. A sweet confection with which to pass an afternoon, if you happen to be in that sort of a mood.

But there's not much to get your teeth into.
