How much you end up liking this novel may have a lot to do with how much you like farce and surrealism. There are some farcical episodes here that are truly hilarious. There are also stretches where I felt like the novel had lost its way and was just rambling around being disjointed and odd for no sufficient reason. Because I'm a bigger fan of slapstick and farce in visual media than in text, I didn't get as big a laugh out of the car chases and pratfalls as some others did. So for me the passages of rambling oddness were not redeemed by as many belly laughs. Still liked it, just didn't love it.
