Uglies - Scott Westerfeld To be fair, in another month or another mood I might just have been inclined to give this one more stars. But although there were some things about this story I really really liked; the hoverboards! the shallow Pretty Town, somehow it didn't completely gell for me. I think maybe it was because I liked Shay so much more than I liked Tally that I wanted her to be the protagonist and she wasn't. In fact she was kind of a Charlie Brown to Tally's Lucy.

After awhile I just wanted to smack Tally upside the head. Especially once other characters started telling her how wonderful she was. Really? Was she really that wonderful? I think perhaps she was not. I understand that she was supposed to be flawed and to have room to grow, but I just ended up not liking her very much.
